Climax Uranium Mill was incorporated May 11, 1950 to mill uranium and vanadium. The mill site, formerly the Grand Junction sugar beet mill (1899-1931), was located on city-owned land along the north side of the Colorado River, in Mesa County, Colorado. When Climax started milling operations, it gutted the mill buildings of remaining equipment and stabilized weak walls. The Climax Mill grew to contain 12 major buildings for its milling operations.
